why dont you p.m a few of the traders on here im sure there must be some good used ones about. put an alert also in the wanted section. i think there are local scrappies and used part finders on the net as well. your best bet is get a couple of used ones like i did as spares. fortunately even though my cars a petrol i have not needed to ... yet.

If you get one from a breakers don't forget to fit new brushes.

When you fit them check the condition of the Slip Rings.

No use fitting the alternator if the rings are damaged.---

Been down the used unit a few years ago, along with new brushes

and its lasted this long . .. .less than 20k .

Thinks its the bearings gone this time ..

Contact Ian G. There was a place in Weymouth where he had Redfives rebuilt.

Funnily enough, I was watching an old "Wheeler Dealers" program last night, and Ed Chyna replaced the two bearings rings in an M5 alternator with new ones for £25. Probably twice that now, and of course you have to have the tools and be handy at DIY (which believe me, despite loving watching mechanics at work, I am definitely not!)
