rover 2lt diesel Idler Pulley
im having trouble with a noisy engine I belive it is the sprung loaded Idler Pulley my question is do need to replace the whole unit or can just undo the 24mm nut and replace the pulley only.

mine made a loud tinkling sound when it went, circa 125k on the clock. You can replace just the pulley ( LH thread to undo ). The tensioner ( which I also replaced, is far more tricky, its buried behind the alternator and steering pump.

Whip the belts off and feel all the pulleys for roughness and play. I had something similar and it turned out to be the water pump.
