Is this common, or am I just unlucky - again.
Hi all,
just wanted a few opinions on this one, please feel free to comment. I've finally managed to get funds together to get the clutch done on my ZT diesel. A nice bloke called Chris from Marshall Motors took the job on for me as he is well versed in the 75 and it's issues. So, today is the day when I would / should of been picking it up. Jobs all done. Car drives great. I've just had a phone call from Chris, he's come to move the car this morning, it fired up and moved, then no power on the throttle. He's plugged it into his computer and the throttle potentiometer had suddenly failed. I truly believe the car is cursed. He's located a second hand one for me but it'll be now next week sometime when the cars ready as it's got to be posted out. So. Is the throttle potentiometer a common item to fail, or am I just unlucky?

I’ve changed a few dead potentiometers, so I’d say it is a known issue.

Well based on the fact that I sell about four or five a week, I would say it’s a very common problem, i’ve had to replace a few on different cars as well, don’t forget there’s two different types

Fair enough.
A pretty common issue then. Many thanks guys. I was looking forward to picking the car up this afternoon and driving it for the first time with a sensible clutch but sadly wasn't to be. Then cursing my bad luck, things have now gotten worse. Looks like there's a good possibility of me loosing my job due to where I work not being busy and struggling due to the pandemic. There might be a ZT with a brand new clutch recently fitted up for sale soon.

Hi Richard.
Ask them to unplug the MAF and see if it make any difference, we had one at the Nano which showed the potentiometer as the problem, unplugged the MAF and it drove as it should.

I wouldn't say it's a particularly rare issue - I changed one on my first 75 as it'd occasionally have a 'wobbly', then one on my most recent ZT.
My BMW 530d (sharing a lot of DNA with the 75/ZT) has also had one at 150,000 miles.

So the MAF can make it appear there is a throttle potentiometer fault? I know the MAF isn't doing what it should as that was diagnosed as faulty at my first NANO meet. Thanks for that. I'll give him a ring!

This is what is inside of the throttle pedal if anyone is interested.
1 2 3 4 5 6 I am not saying that unplugging the MAF is your solution, merely just passing on the info that occurred at the Nano, because the throttle potentiometer do go wrong, which should show up on the T4
