Default Rover 45 & L series diesel

I know, this is the Rover 75 forum but I seem to now be the owner of the Rover 45 I bought from MSS not so long ago. My Mrs is getting the Rover Mini my mother gave to my stepdaughter as she is (in my opinion) very unwisely getting into the world of 'lease' cars as so many young people are nowadays.

Anyway, I actually like the car - my wife has done her best to destroy it during the past year but with a bit of love it will be a good car again. My questions really are:

- is there a forum with knowledgeable advice like this one for them?
- does anyone have experience of curing water leaks into the cabin with them?
- Increasing the power a bit without 'Ronbox' type things? - or do they work on the L series?

Any help or suggestions gratefully received

The water leak can come the left hand front plenum cover. There is a foam seal that perishes/shrinks over the years which sits over an air intake for the cabin. Remove the plastic plenum cover. You will probably break some of the clips holding it if not careful. There is a sort of metal deflector plate there too that can be bent a bit more to stop water entering the cabin.

Water leaks Dave?

What have you been doing to it?

From memory, there are some very useful posts on .org about increasing power of the L series.

Nothing to do with me Mrs Dave has a knack of destroying cars if left alone with them for too long! This Rover Mini is a nice car, low mileage, been looked after and has been in my family since new - I give it 6 months before she breaks it somehow and declares it a shed

I like the 45, I actually enjoy driving it and feel bad about what has happened to it tbh it as it was a good car when I bought it. I will be getting it back to that - maybe with a few modest/subtle upgrades

You can turn up the boost very easily which will give it a bit more umph. It avoids the smoke too. I’m pretty sure I was directed to the video on YouTube by someone on this site. Will take a look and copy the link on here for you.

Found it on YouTube. It really is that simple to do.

Up the boost (no more than 19psi mind), fit injectors from the older 200/400/600 series diesel, unplug EGR, diode mod the MAF sensor and gut the cat. After all this you'll be flashing BMWs out of your way in the 3rd lane!

Two things to be wary of if you do the above: be prepared for it to reveal a slipping clutch, and it is possible to blow the head gasket on the L-series if you rag it. Ask me how I know...
