the actual belt change is but when it's fitted on the car there are things that have to be removed that don't have to with an engine out and certian things are harder to do while the engine is in due to poor access and they will be people on here that would have find an easier way to remove those awkward item

Oh, I agree entirely. the biggest job here is getting to the job in the first place! But if you had the engine out, you would have to do all that dismantling anyway, so hey ho, get stuck in.
If you take it to a garage you have no guarantee the mechanic will take it all off and replace everything to the standards you would yourself.
My daughter has one of those Q5s and you would have thought Audi could do it right, but they didn't. Caused all kinds of problems.

Hiya Lee. I too have to do the same job on my 54 plate 190 and over the last two weeks I've been searching on here for a how-to thread using the correct tools. After all, if someone has been there before and didn't do the timing correctly, it would be a good idea to do it this time using those correct tools!

It seams that it is quite possible to do the job without the tools and the excellent thread that gazcaz has pointed out proves the point. However, you and I want to use the tools.
The only vid I've seen so far is a factory vid from quite some time ago as the rear sprockets are not the same as the sprockets on my 190 or the ones on that thread. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fFx8SPiTSc

What I'd like to know is, do the original tools still work on those later sprockets? And if they don't, what else do we use?
Don't forget, the tool kit you have must have the additional timing plates for the 190, if of course, you are timing a 190.
Hopefully someone will come on with some answers Steve

Thanks Bob, another useful thread. I've seen that one and I'm tempted, but I would like to see one using the tools!
