When I first got a car in 68 it was 5s 4d a gallon and I was paid £800 pa. I think you were being ripped off John, or perhaps petrol dropped in price between 57 and 68.

Oh, Just saw a pig fly past!

For the yuff on here, there were 20 shillings to the £ and 12d to the Shilling so work out the price is in decimal for yourself! As a hint it is a lot less than 35p.

I confess I am so old I give up on this constant whinging about fuel prices. People are always doing it and it makes not a jot of difference. We need more tax income to fix the problems left by the one eyed Scotsman and I would far prefer they tax spending that I can control rather than my income that I cannot!

Didn't spot that!

When there was talk about a referendum on joining the euro, I wanted a third question, "do you want to go back to £sd".

Got my 15 seconds of fame from the referendum,
I was involved in the vote count & was interviewed for local TV, put my foot in my mouth when asked about the vote. My reply was
"The referendum is too late as it should have happened earlier & should have asked - should we join the EEC"

I got pulled by my headmaster after my interview was televised, he was NOT happy....again

A friend of mine was in Bahrain when the troubles flared up and the day before he had to fill his hire care from nearly empty ... a Toyota Yaris ... and it took a total of £5! More than likely over £40 here - disgusting

With the budget just a few days away has the boy chancellor decided yet what he will do? Put the penny on, not put it on or take it off? Perhaps he should ask of the oil companies why they are very quick to put the price of petrol up when the oil price rises; but very slow to reduce it when it comes down!
