Default Heater problem but demister OK

My Rover 75 Diesel purchased by me from new on 2001 has a heater which does not work but the demister does work.I assume that the thermostat is OK. If it is a vent problem what needs to be replaced or repaired.

I take it that you have tried the adjuster wheel (under the clock) in the centre of the top dash that controls air flow from outside/inside? It took me a while to suss out what it did - until the winter came! Brrrrrr!

The demisting system works very well without any heating because it dries the incoming air. If the engine is cold or the heater matrix is silted up, the demister will still work fine.

Not from what you've described, for the reason given. If the heater never heats, it's either because the matrix is blocked or because the coolant temperature is too low. I'd plump for the thermostat being the prime suspect.

The best way to determine this is to check the engine running temperature by driving with the trip screen diagnostic showing the real time data. You need it close to 90C if possible. That's why the in-line stat is so popular.

EDIT: I see you're a newcomer, so these links might help.

Diagnostic Mode: http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...ad.php?t=55585
For this, you need section 7.
