Shim mask - may be useful for DYO members.
Shim Mask by DeVilbiss
This was amongst a wad of items on sale by a local auto retailer. I haven’t heard of this item before. I suppose that there may be other similar products on the market, but I am not aware of them. Could be useful when filling in stone chips and smoothing the clear lacquer coat. http://youtu.be/9KYbj5w3zHc Comes in a set of three sheets and can be used with: · One-edged razor blade. · Diamond cutter · Sanding block · Orbital sander. Cheers, Egremont. |

That is excellent and thanks for posting it up. I will get some, it is just what I am looking for. I bought some clear lacquer touch-up pens from Rimmers, but they had gone thick and 'gobby', so this is just the job for tidying it up and it will be useful for 'chip' repairs generally.

I've done similar with odd chip touch ups.
Luckily I have a small tin of various thickness shim , and have stuck a strip of 1 or 2 thou shim each side of the blob and scraped it smoother. works quite well . C..
