Default How I fixed the cup holders

For anyone who has a broken cup holder and likes a bit of handiwork instead of buying a new one. It's usually only the plastic locking pins that break, I believe.
I recently discovered I have a passenger (LHD) cup holder which was broken and glued to be immovable by the previous owner. Thanks to Dave (DAS68) I now have both front cup holders and have fixed them.
At first I glued on a new plastic pin but that didn't last more than a week. Since the front cup holders are hard to obtain where I live, I figured out a better fix.
Briefly, I used 3,2 mm (3,0 would have been better perhaps) rivets, 1,4 mm nails, a 1,5 mm drill, a few drops of super glue and, of course, some tools. When fitted, I filed two flat surfaces onto the new pin to aid movement in the guiding grooves. Voilà, two working cup holders.

I don't think I'm the first to do this, but I hope someone will find the pictures useful.

Quick question, are there 2 cup holders in all 75s ? my automatic only has one that opens on the left, when i press the other side it's just solid.

I don't think there are, more common is that there is a single one if any at all. Well, if you have a Connoisseur SE you'll have all the blows and whistles. But the covers are easy to remove, just pull them off and find out.

Nice fix, I will remember that one. I only have one cup holder in the front and it is on the bosses side... err I mean the wife.

"if any at all"

Every 75 left the factory with one cup holder on the passenger side as standard. The drivers side one was optional. Connoisseur and Connoisseur SEs don't necessarily have both. I have 2 Connie SEs and each only has the passenger side one.

Default Connoisseur SE driver's side

Neither my Connie (2003) or Connie SE (2001) have a driver's side cup holder. I understood that only the early 1999 Cowley cars had the extra cup holder.

Regardless I'd be interested to know anywhere I can purchase one because I want it. On a manual they'd get knocked with clutch shifts but on an auto you'd get away with it.

This idea is a long shot, but it might help you. Several years ago, I bought a drivers side cup holder from Trimani - R.I.P. (Alf). Alf had bought it from a batch in Portugal (OEM and brand new) and he sold it to me for 50 GBP. I have found it to be of use when I am out driving and pulled over in a lay-by for a coffee.

A new member called malagas posted up he is from Portugal. You could try him and ask him to keep a look out for you. Just a thought.

All the best
Phil

Try Ebay Germany or similar where a seller will post to UK and search for driver side cup holder

No the drivers side is a blank. You can install a cup holder if you wish, but they are rare, and costly
