Default Goodness our cars are heavy

Are our cars any heaver then other comparable cars? At a bit over 1.5 tonne I'm struggling to get a self drive car transporter.
Looks like I may need to take a second car so I can strip 80kg from the donor car.

I'm sure they weigh in at 2 tons or just over. Taxable weight on mine is 2000 some odd kilos.

You will not get a 3.5 tonne gross vehicle to carry one of our cars legally My cousin operates a car collection/delivery service and the lightest he has managed to drop his tare weight to is 1.9 tonne. That allows him to carry 1.6 tonne including his diesel (full) and of course himself and if needed a passenger. So realistically you will be looking to hire a 4.5 tonne gross which means different licence and regulations. Vosa love these types of vehicles (3.5 tonne) which gives them/government a good income in overweight fines.

Still amazing what you see on the roads though. I often see 3.5T transporters carrying vans on the back. I also spotted a jag x-type towing a twin axle car trailer with a medium wheelbase sprinter on it on the M6 a few weeks back.

As for 75's yes they are heavy, when I picked my none running ZT up a mate towed me the 2miles home on a rigid bar with his 1.6 megane. He nearly burnt the clutch out when we got to a slight incline in the road.

My local friendly transporter-guy took a VW Phaeton on his 3.5T the other week, and posted pictures on Facebook.
Talk about stupid!

I'm not sure but they do feel heavy to drive as I also have a peugeot 308 sw and it is only about 100kg lighter but feels a lot lighter to drive.

Yes it's comparable, and if anything quite a lightweight compared to some.

Small Hatchbacks are a tonne, mid sized family tend to be 1.4 and 1.6 and executive are usually anything above.

Put it this way, my Audi A3 weighed 1.4t and that's a smallish family hatch.

But I was always in this position where you couldn't get a 75 on a transporter. Only way is to trailer or use a bigger wagon.
