Top up with oil or not to top up with oil?
Hi
I noticed my neighbour topping up his car with oil today even though he has it regulary serviced, it is a VW Golf 1.3 petrol on a 53 plate. I was just wondering if this is a good or bad thing to do? Also should I being doing this with my 2.0 KV6? Regards Tom |

Top up only if you need to. The KV6 doesn't use oil a lot -in three years I've never topped mine up. Check the dipstick and as long as it is half way or above the base marker then you should be fine Mike

I like to keep mine as close to max as possible, which means a very small top up now and again. Make sure the engine is cold and on flat gound and preferably in the car. Oil expands when hot and will give a false reading and some will be around the engine and not in the sump. |

It's immpossible to read the dipstick on my CDT, now matter what I try it goes everywhere on the way up the tube, always looks like there is a litre to much in.
Luckily I change it every 6k and measure what goes in and out. |
