Default grilles in interior light

It's probably an obvious question but could someone tell me what the small grilles are each side of the front interior light? Probably should say what's behind them?

There's nothing behind them, they were meant for the factory fitted car phone. I fitted the mic for my carphone kit behind the drivers side one and it works very well!

Thanks both, I thought perhaps it was something like that, just wanted to know.
I'm thinking of a hands free kit so it seems a good place to put the mic.
