Can't imagine it's the Gauze filter as many brand new 75's I delivered back in 2005 had the same whine.

I wish I knew!
Of all the "claims" of a cure no one has posted exactly what was done

my 2005 facelift CDTi has been doing this for ages, i thought it was connected to the clutch at first, but now i have come to accept the whine and no longer tune into it, would be great to get a fix though

Well what is the difference between the fuel system on the early mk1's and the late mk1's and mk'2's. That is the question!
Was there an identifiable change on the fuel system when they did this cost reduction exercise around late 2003? That is the question! There must be some difference because its only the mk2's and a few of the late mk1's that are effected - like mine for instance its a 53 plate mk1, one of the last before the facelift, and mine definitely does it. This is correct isn't it Jules, non of the early cars do it? Or is it nothing to do with the fuel system? Perhaps we should make a list of all the differences and then go through the list step by step and reduce it to a short list, and then do some substitution tests. |

I have recently changed the high pressure fuel pump on my ZT135 manual. No webasto heater and has in-tank and under-bonnet fuel pumps. Now I have the whine described in this thread and it is driving me mad.

I think you may have inadvertently found the root of the noise!
From what I've seen (but not always the case) by using the 'instantanious fuel economy' feature on the hidden OBD menu, is that the fuel-supply is cut off when it's whining (so fuel being saved).... Last edited by r44712; 18th February 2011 at 16:18.. |

Did you change it together with the cylindrical HP fuel regulator attached to the pump?
As i recall someone (possibly on this thread) changing the regulator and the noise disappeared

Does the fuel pressure regulator have an electrical connector? If it does, then I can maybe swap it with the one from the original pump which I have still got. How do you remove the regulator?
