Default Smell of Diesel HELP

Help Diesel leak????? Pump problem?????
I can smell diesel when driving my 04 ZT CDTi, I noticed the pipes on the Bosch pump under the bonnet were weeping and my mechanic has replaced them including the one under that you can't see.

It still smells of diesel so I looked at the pump again and I can see a little diesel dampness about. It could be the pipes which are now not oe or it could be the pump itself is leaking from the gaskets on the (inspection?)plates at the top and side.

Has anyone any experience of this.

Welcome to the club and the forum.
I know little or nothing about diesels so not of any help. It's a bit early in the day for our experts to be around but rest assured someone will be along to assist.

Hi,

Do you have an underbonnet pump (next to battery?). Check these connections into and out of the filter.

Is the car driving ok? Does it start ok?

let us know how you get on and what you found was at fault.

also check all the return unions from the injectors - on the low pressure side About 4 or 5 separate pieces of rubber tubing. They are prone to breaking up after a while and can then suddenly weep and seep and finally spout!
like dogdoo, you dont need much diesel to get a big smell...?

It is the high pressure injector pump I am asking about, can't see any leaks anywhere apart from a small amount of fuel around the Bosch unit, returns look ok.

She starts and goes fine.

There is a little staining on the under tray where diesel has been dripping in the past and there is now a little drip again. The pipes were changes for some standard high pressure fuel pipes but not oe rover ones.

Smell is not constant but is there most of the time but you know how it gets up your nose, have mentioned this to ron before but before the pipe change, maybe I should ask again.

Never seen anything about things like this on either this or the mg-rover site.

I don't want to do loads of tooing and froing to my garage trying to sort so am gathering as much info as poss.

Default The thick plottens

Bad news I no longer think it is the pipes but the pump itself. There are some plates fitted with Allen screws on the top and the side, it would appear diesel is seeping out of the top one, It's looking expensive anyone help?
