How to fix 1.8turbo Catalyst Rattle?
Almost overnight my 2004 Connoisseur (16,000 miles) has changed from a silent running dream to a rattling embarassment. It sounds like the dreaded catalyst rattle to me. I haven't been under to investigate, but from the driving seat with the door open, the rattle emanates from the right place. Could be loose baffles in the front box I guess, but isn't catalyst rattle more likely?
I've seen the diagram (where?) for welding the detached V6 cat, but is there a similar fix for the 1.8turbo? TC |

check the exhaust mount that bolts to the sump as these are prone for braking

I'd best check properly before seeking more advice.

Cat rattle !
Think I have heard of folks inserting a self tapping screw to stop this. Maybe positioning is important but can't see it can do much harm.
Am sure a member will come along and confirm this remedy.

I've read that too, as well as the hole & weld method. Problem is, how many screws might you have to fit before getting it right? You really need the exact measurements/positioning, otherwise I can see the cat ruined.

OK have checked the rattling exhaust and it seems to be from the first silencer box after the catalyst. When I bang on this with my hand I hear 'loose' stuff rattling inside. I guess this means the baffles have detached? Has anyone managed to fix this rattle? The pipe itself is like new having covered only 16,000 miles, so I'm reluctant to have it all replaced just because of the rattle. However, it gets pretty annoying in town, once the pipework is hot. Any suggestions?
