If for some reason either the LSM or the IPK have been changed or even disconnected and car driven then the data will not match. Both units will try to communicate with each other to "restore" the original mileage of the car. It may take a few hundred miles for the information to become re-synchronised.

From the post Simon I took it they just changed the Alternator?
So I can't at present see reason for mismatch.

Very true John, but he also says his car is new (well, new to him) so it could be that a previous owner or another garage had reason to remove/disconnect the IPK or LSM. You never know.....

A bit confusing this
I assume the odometer was working ok prior to the Alternator change?
If so there ought to be some onus on the garage to explain why it has gone wrong

Simon I am not sure they will resync you could possibly end up with a permanent ERR message if either unit was out by more than a 100 miles or so but the probability of anyone driving that sort of distance with either disconnected is probably unlikely. Not an experiment I would want to try though!

I would be inclined to disconnect the battery for a while and see if it comes back to life afterwards, failing that a check on T4 might show something and there would be no harm running the reconfigure ECUs option

To add, very strange things happen to your car when the IPK (and I presume the LSM) are disconnected. For example, when ignition is in position 2, then the symbols "Er" replace the temperatures on the ATC panel and the ATC itself doesn't function. I know this from experience when I had to move my car (just down drive a bit and then back!) whilst 'dry fitting' my new IPK a few months back.

Skint of Suffolk!
I had the same problem 18 months ago and still have not found a solution.
