New Clutch Required Hantz
My clutch needs to be replaced most likely and I want to know if anyone can recommend who to use in my area. Based near Winchester so Southampton/Basingstoke area.
The pedal stayed down this morning and although it seems OK now I expect the worse is to come.

From Neil's description of a noisy release bearing, then I'd say it's unlikely to be a master cylinder problem
As to who and where to get it fixed........yes it can be done DIY with a bit of planning and time......and perhaps a second pair of hands Brian |

Can't have run out of clutch fluid then. With a bit of luck it might just be the master cylinder seal on the way out.--- |

I don't see more than just grease around the master cylinder.
As for doing it myself. Its way above my skill level. My concern now is having read recent threads that the latest parts available are poorly made and are failing or at best not performing well. Clutch judder and failed cylinders after recent repairs and worse. Are we to scrap as soon as the clutch goes.? Ive invested a lot of time and money by now and my car looks pretty sharp considering its age. My last MOT guy comment was wow I haven't seen such a clean example. I guess I would like the best possible parts recommendations and any trick to point out to the garage about where to take extra care when setting up the new clutch/ cylinders etc. Brian, I copied a couple of links from one of your recent posts re clutch and cylinder so any updates or thoughts would be very much appreciated before I start ordering parts. A shopping list would ideal if that's not too much bother. I can then phone a local mechanic who has been recommended. Thanks Neil

Well I called the mechanic a friend of my nephew who has done one years ago he said he's going to look up the time specified for doing the job of changing the lot. So I can expect a quote today.
I'm holding my breath

So far I have these two ear marked for purchase
I think I need another cylinder and a DMR to complete the parts list? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FREELANDE...0c5d%7Ciid%3A1 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Motaquip-...ec48%7Ciid%3A1

Neil- I think the slave you have earmarked is for petrol, not diesel models. Motaquip may also do one for diesels. It is a bit of lottery regarding clutch part quality for the 75s. The LUK Repset pro kit seems to be well regarded by many traders. If you can find a Delphi slave to go with the Freelander 2 part clutch kit that might be a good bet, as they are supposedly produced using the old AP tooling that made the factory-fitted items.
Fitting technique is as important as parts quality when doing clutches on these cars -see my 'clutch change saga' thread from a couple of years ago to see some of the tricks for fitting these clutches successfully. Make sure the mechanic removes the subframe and cleans everything up within the bellhousing before fitting the new clutch, flushes the master cylinder out to avoid contamination of the new slave cylinder, and correctly lubricates the input shaft splines, guide tube and release bearing face. Replacing the guide tube the slave sits on is also a good idea when doing these clutches. Two years and 14,000 miles on, my clutch is still performing well, apart from slight growl/bearing noise on changing gear (probably due to me choosing a metal slave , something I would not recommend now). Good luck and let us know how you get on. Pete |

I thought a clutch change was beyond me but a Haynes manual and support from the forum and I did it. Mike Noc did give me a hand which I appreciated but most of the work I did
you may want one of these https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/collections/...seal-utl100081 the slave cylinder slides on it. The Haynes manual also suggests changing the circlip on the near side drive shaft. also may need item3 https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID001957 Hope the retaining clips on the gear cables at the gearbox end do not break as they are no longer available and you will need to source second hand ones. may need 2, 3 and 4. item 2 may be worth change for maintenance reasons if seized. https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID001544 2 of item 11 but swooping near side and off side may do https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID001540 cant find a link to it but self locking nuts to go onto item 1 https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID001541 macafee2 |

Hate to see you get all this done only to find you still have the same problem. Best of luck with it. |
