Well, after battling the elements and this gearbox, it's finally together!

Now, the good bits are it drives in all gears now, there seems to be no undue slippage in any gears and the changes are all good if slightly jerky but that's because the oils still not clean.

There is one slight issue but I can't tell if its coming from the engine or gearbox but something's whirring?
It may just be a case of running and seeing if anything happens? My gut says gbox but may be linked to dirty oil? Maybe need a good run? Only been a couple of mile in it so it may quieten down. Time will tell

But overall I'm happy. It's got more gears than it had this mornin so how can I complain

Is it a whirring that definitely wasn't there before? Does it whir in neutral?

Not sure if it was there before, don't think so and I'm not sure about revving in neutral, I haven't tried. I will report back when I have found out

quick update with this, i couldnt hear the noise over the wheel bearing, it was making a right racket!

anyway, shortly after my last post, i dropped the oil once more and refilled and from what i can tell, i seem to have incorrectly filled the gearbox

it needed another litre of so, and now its properly full its stopped making a noise.

ive now traveled 300 miles and is nice and smooth and working as it should so im happy for the time being

This brings back memories! Depends which clutch plates you want out. Any of the aforementioned plates can be done with gearbox in situ (the cover is a little awkward to take off though) but any others need the box out for access from the other side

Just found this post but the photos look deliberately blurred. Is there any way of "cleaning" the photos?
It looks like I have the cracked reverse cylinder syndrome and now have the parts ( hope all of them!) but now just need to get it clear in my mind what else is needed and how to proceed.

They've been blurred by the hosting site's ransom.

Are you 100% it is the reverse piston? I cannot offer guidance or advice, but believe this fault only affected a relatively small number of cars, of which yours could be one. But I have read of others fearing it to be early stages of reverse piston failure, only to cure the problem with a fluid change.

It would be a job I would fear, and would.tty to exhaust all other avenues first.
