Default Cooling fan Broken

Well just took the front end off to get at the fan to replace the brushes.... And found 2 brush housings destroyed, magnet split, 2 springs missing.

So that motor is beyond repair, so is it a case of replace like for like or can I fit an after market or 2 speed one with any mods?

If you go for second hand, try to get the later 2-speed system. If you plan on changing everything (i.e. the control box as well), then it must be ex:diesel. A petrol box won't work. They're few and far between these days. Other than that, the 2-speed motor and wiring will go straight in. An unmodified 2-speed needs the resistor upgrade (also from eBay, forum traders, electronics outlets). Easy enough with the HowTos around and about.

Its ok I have sourced a fan and correct resistor for making my own one, got the wiring diagram of the original and how to make it to a 2 speed with resistor so will be doing that, its worked this long (since november) without it, pretty sure 3 more days won't hurt as only a couple of miles to work and will use the wifes car for anything else. Unfortunately when you live just about within your means, you have to shop around, otherwise I would of bought it ready made from Jules.
