Major Rust - rear sill
Good morning everyone. After almost 15 years of cherishing and looking after my Rover75 I discovered the dreaded rust today. I have been meaning to look at my offside rear sills after my garage discovered paint bubbing up last December. They advised me to check it when the weather is warmer & drier and insert Waxoyl. However I think it is beyond Waxoyl and I probably need to get it checked out and welded. Have others any experience with this problem. I live in the Leeds area and thought maybe some folk around here may have some solutions of where I could get a professional job done? Typical area is a hole close to the jacking point!

It creeps up unannounced, once you see rust bubbles it's normally too late!

Here's the damage . The left picture shows the hole measuring about 3inch across. The rh picture shows the jacking point. Metal around jacking point is much thicker, but where the hole is next to the jacking point the metal is only 2mm thick! Last edited by robbrooks; 27th May 2017 at 07:27.. |

I was just about to say get hold of sonic because thats the repair you will need but Paul has already posted. Nothing to do with metal thickness its age and no preventative measures put in place. Unfortunately the cars are now at an age that the tin worm will come forth especially around water traps.
A few members have had these areas repaired now. Pauls (sonic) repair shows the work involved and if your keeping the car I would recommend getting cavity wax into the nooks and crannies. Good luck with the repair mate

My 1.8 has this quite bad. It's the next main thing to get done. The body man I asked has gone AWOL though. Cant get him on phone or e mail, so may have to rethink!
