Default Long Vs short undertray?

I've got an undertray on my want list (the genuine ones are available from the original maker at http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Rover-...-/201928124428

However, I've come across these 'short' ones
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rover-75-1...-/152337073849

So now I'm confused, I didn't realise short ones were an option. Any reason for the difference and which one would be best for me (1.8NAS) ? I take it they both fit the K series 1.8? Was the short one just a case of money pinching or was there a specific reason they were fitted instead of the full size ones?

Thanks, Ali.

The short type was only fitted to the 1.8T for some reason.
Originally, the diesel (long) version had more sound-proofing than the petrol version, though I believe they became a one-type-fits-all part.

Does the larger one fit the 1.8T ones?

Maybe the short one for the 1.8T was to let the extra heat out that the turbo generated ?

Default All fit

They all fit all cars

Only difference to big ones is extra soundproofing. Short one only fitted to later 1-8s Much easier for maintenance but personally ( even though a pain) I have full size ones. They do keep the engine much cleaner

The longer undertray must have been part of project drive, (penny pinching). Perhaps would help aerodynamics and improved fuel economy by 0.2mpg Surely would have helped reduce noise from engine too.

Its a pity the photo for the long undertray was not larger/clearer. Would have liked to have seen if there is a little bulge in it for the later models with fitted the PRT.

Apparently, they are all the same. The one I linked to is the genuine long undertray being sold by the manufacturer (new old stock) (http://www.hampson-composites.co.uk/pages/home.htm).

The cheap new ones on ebay are, poor quality Polish PVC copies, holes might not line up and no heat shield or insulation. (see http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...d.php?t=231310 for a discussion).

Well I took the plunge and purchased one, and will provide details of it once received in this thread. I am going to fit this one to my 1.8T with PRT in place of the shorty version. One thing I will do is cover all the Zsus and spring clip fittings in grease for longevity. Corrosion and poor fitting techniques on is the main reason so many undertrays fall off or get discarded as the fittings corrode easily and stop functioning as intended.

BTW, I tried using ebay best offer option at £60, and £65, but both offers declined. They have sold a lot of them in the past by the look of it.

I think I read somewhere that the under tray was originally fitted to reduce engine noise outside the car to meet some sound requirements either in house or legislative ??
I found it unusual that my Zt had no firewall sound proofing and only a half sound deadening panel under the bonnet.
Ended up fitting a full set of sound proofing out of a 75.

The longer undertray reduces the chances of water getting to the electrics, reduces sound and dirt, and if one needs that reassurance, cannot be removed by the MOT guys.
