Really ?, Nice One

During my investigations I attempted to get the icon illuminated with a high line IPK but didn't get it to display. However the car I tried it on was configured for a lowline IPK and I just tried a direct swap for a slave highline IPK. Perhaps I need to code the highline IPK to the actual car to get it to illuminate.

Yes, yes. Thank you Gary for this how-to! I think now a lot of people will install the sensor. There are a lot of sensors, even horizontal type sensors http://vehiclesensor.net/float-senso...nks-on-trucks/

The vertical version is best in my opinion as its out of sight under the tank and precisely triggered at the fluid level drop or loss intended by Rover.

Why not just mount a low coolant warning LED somewhere? A flashing red LED would be easy to rig up from the sensor.

Why would you want to do that if there is an existing LED built into the IPK and this method is easier. One wire and plus an earth lead which will be required for the level sensor anyway

Besides I can't tolerate non OE add ons to the dashboard or surrounding area.

The warning LED built into the IPK is central to the driver at eye level and therefore ideally positioned to show the low coolant early level warning should it occur.

That's good news, I'll try it on my V6 once back together, be interesting to know if the highline warning operates without the engine running on the V6.

It is not fantastic if it doesn't, as you could park up and lose coolant when parked (this has happened to me) but you won't get a warning until 20 seconds after starting the engine.

I had the optical sensor fitted to my car (currently taken off due to tank leak) and that would warn you as soon as you turned on the ignition if the level had dropped since you parked up.

Would be good to get your feedback on the v6. 20 seconds from start up would not be detrimental to the engine. Supposing the engine was completely devoid of coolant (which is almost impossible) 20 seconds running would not do any damage.
