Rear bumper removal question

Guys,

Ive a sensor not clicking on the rear bumper of one of the ZTs, its the one on the drivers corner (RHS).

Now my question is.... is it possible to just pull out one side of the rear bumper to access the back of the sensor, or is there not enough give/access and the whole thing needs to come off?

Reason I ask this instead of just going and doing it, is that the car is 20 mins away, and space is very tight around it, and it would just be me trying to manoeuvre a bumper on my own, so wanted to avoid any potential issues before its a wasted journey.

It should be just about possible, but, I have taken the whole bumper (tourer) off on my own twice, I would take it all off if I had to, just in case I strained/broke anything pulling at one end.

The bumper's so easy to remove completely, I wouldn't bother trying to wedge one side open and squinting into the rear of it. The moulding will no doubt be twisted out of shape with half held in the mounted position. A simple one-man job. Have some old carpet over a box of some sort to lift it off the deck. Check out the silly wiring joins and solder them if they're as dodgy as mine were.

Yeah Im leaning towards that. I just dont want to have it off (its a saloon) and find that on my own its impossible to re-fit, or I struggle to re-fit and end up scratching/damaging something.

The guy who sprayed up the rear bumper, did say that the connector to the sensor loom was cracked and someone had wrapped tape around it, so with any luck I can find a replacement connector housing, swap it, and everything is good.

I think I would be surprised if the sensor itself was knackered, it was working perfectly before the bumper came off.

Very easy to remove & refit, open the bootlid & remove the row of black "scrivets" & also the 2 underneath the car, remove the screw at each side just behind the wheel on the bottom edge of the bumper, grab the end of the bumper by the wheelarch & pull sharply towards you & simply slide the bumper off. Refitting is a case of sliding it back on ensuring the 2 lugs for the bottom clips go under the steel brackets, then once in place line up the ends with the plastic brackets & give them a quick smack & they will click back in, then refit the screws & clips

I managed it without problem at the first attempt. The clue is to gently lift it evenly onto the two plastic 'retainers' on the rear body. These will support it while you locate the various fasterers. Use rags or masking tape over the two sides if you're worried about scratching. With the top edge fully fastened, spray WD40 into the receiving slots, enter the bumper flanges and apply a smart slap with your flat palm. It's about decisiveness over caution really. [/QUOTE]
