Ultimately a rather prosaic conclusion. Booked the car into a nearby x-part garage; the company that fitted the new discs and flexi-pipes was a little too far when largely brake less. They found the new pipes were too big. Consequently chafing against the wheel and splitting. Oops.

Thank you to everyone for their ideas and contribution to the thread.

if wrong parts were fitted then original garage should foot the bill to have the other garage put it right.

Too long! That is a surprising level of incompetence.

You have a claim against the first garage of at least the cost of the second repair.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

It's becoming a farce! Tonight off to an air line to check tyre pressures so I can have a jolly this weekend. Back along the nearby by-pass for the whoosh. Something wrong, steering wheel wobble, not enough whoosh. Get home. Feel the wheels. Ha ha ha. The wheel I put the car into a garage for the sticking calliper repair is hot. I'm where I was a month ago. Except a few hundred pounds lighter. Oh mustn't overlook the abraded brake pipe, which could have proved terminal. I think MJS Littlehampton have exhausted my patience.

Find out who is in charge at the company, then make an appointment to go see them and explain your tale of incompetence to them. If they don't offer recompense, take them to the small claims court.

MJS have contacted me, fulsomely apologised, offered to reimburse repair cost and fit new callipers on my driveway f.o.c.

As the original problem has not resolved and I had the pipes replaced I assume the issue lies with the calliper. Are they the same as those used on the MGZT 190? Just reversed. Any recommendations regarding supplier/manufacturer? I've had fitted new TwoSixties discs (and pipes!).

I used this company for the front brakes on my old V8, same as the 190 set up.

Replacement calipers fitted by MJS. Hopefully that has resolved the problem. Time for a test drive.
