Default Rear backplate labour time

A query.... What do you think would be a fair labour time for a garage to charge to change rear backplates, handbrake shoes and disks?

Thanks
Keith.

if all goes to plan around three hours i would have thought.but thats if if goes to plan and they no what they are doing.caliper bolts can be a pig.but if you remove the caliper first not so.the bolts holding on the plates can be seized solid.plus removing cable from the plate will nxt to impossible.this requires the ferule on the plate to be ground away.releasing the cable.so a lot if if buts and maybes.perhaps some one has the mgr quoted times handy

Agree with Suffolk boy, three to four hours, as the cable will be stuck!

Thanks Both. I got charged 3.5 hours, so that seems reasonable. There is clearly a bit more involved than I appreciated!

I think the bolts holding the plates have some form of Loctite on them making them very hard to remove. As for the cable being seized in the plate, heat the shaft on the back of the plate and the cable should pull out.
Blow torch or hot air gun should do the job. Make sure the end of the outer cable and the inside of the shaft are greased before reassembly.

Smile Didn't pay for labour

Took my squealing R75 to National Tyres, had rear brakes and rear discs both replaced for £200(inc.vat).. They don't charge for labour !!

discs and pads are a very different proposition to the back plate. Probably 30-45 minutes to change both discs and pads.

would not matter how long, they will not charge for labour, the only catch is you must buy parts from them, but they are not expensive.....
