Default T4 Advice and help

Hi Everyone,

I am a new member to the 75 site but not Rover.

I have just recently had the good fortune of getting hold of a full T4 with cables with a Dell laptop that is running the T4 software but the software appears corrupted or has files missing. The laptop is running XP and appears all ok it is the T4 software where the problem is. I think it is v5.6

Any advice or help would be gratefully received. Dont worry all you T4 traders as this is just for personal use.

many thanks

If you have the discs and an XP try reinstalling it all. T4 seems perfectly happy with service pack 2, don't add virus protection as there is no need to connect to the net. One other thing what other discs you have? 06v being the latest, you do need 01 & 03 to install upgrades.
Marinabrian can help you if you pm him.
PS welcome aboard

Thanks for the reply Trevor.

The laptop is running xp but the T4 software discs I have are 3.11 install upgrade 1,2,3 and millennium ready. Although I think the Rds software is v5.06 but not 100% sure on that.
Is it the upgrade discs that will move the version number on or is it a new install disc?

Obviously trying to install something that is wad designed for the original textbook will look for win95 or less and older bios.

I am tempted to completely wipe the laptop and start a fresh as I also have windows 98,xp, and 7 installation discs but don't know whether the Rds software will need any codes to activate it or passwords etc.

RDS3.11 is for TestBook 1, the software you need to install is RDS5.06

As Trevor says, a clean install of XP, CD drive exrension set to Z: followed by RDS5.06, then LANGMAP updates 1 and 2 before running DST0006V are required

Thanks for the reply Brian.

Would you know where I could obtain a copy of the discs you have mentioned please as I have some time over christmas to have a go at getting this going. Can these discs be copied successfully or not? do you need a registration number?

I have to ask one question, what makes you think your current copy of RDS is corrupt?

If you are checking RDS file integrity within the configuration section of T4, it will report approximately 131 file discrepancies.

While discs can be copied, I rather think you'd be better off approaching Omitec Instrumentation in Devizes as they will be able to provide originals, at a reasonable price.

I will not be drawn into the rights and wrongs, however let's just say I do not condone piracy

There was a seller on eBay peddling counterfeit T4 and RAVE discs, along with other software, however that's another story entirely

Hi.
May I ask a silly question Rover64. Your profile says you don't have a 75 and your only using the testbook for personal use, so what are you going to test it on?
