You can always buy your ideal plate and keep in on retention till you get a newer car.

Hi, my ideal plate is the one that is on the car when I bought it! I cannot understand the fixation with personalised number plates, I class it as a malaise.

Thousands would disagree with you, its a massive market right now and I don't see anything wrong with it, i have one on my main daily car but wouldn't change my zt Bd Prefix original reg

I've got a single digit, non-date plate 3 RMD.

My father bought it for £ 1,500 in the '70s: his initials - I have no idea what it is worth now.

I first used the cherished number service due to very poor wording by a previous employer of their car allowance/fuel card scheme that said that the car had to be registered within 3 years of the current date to qualify. Of course, changing the plate is a registration. I'm sure they meant 3 years from new...so they should have said first registration

I've just transferred my plate onto my zt, bought for £500 20 years ago now worth about 3 times what I paid for the car. Back in the late 80's when I was quite into rap/hip hop, I saw a ren5 turbo with the plate KRS1- Google it! Also saw a Saab if I'm remembering correctly with Tur80!

Don't forget many numbers are not bought for the car they are on but get transferred to other cars when a personal number car is sold.

I bought a number in 1993 when a rare stroke of luck came my way and it's been transferred to all my following cars. Three letters are family true and the numbers are 190 (being our wedding date ie the 19th and 0 being our first year together. Should have bought an MG but like the Rover too much! The plate is now worth too much to sell!

A chap lived near where I live with a Porsche 911. Reg no 2 COX. Should think that is worth much more than 1.
