Default auto down hill

hi merry xmass all. not a problem but can some one please explain how the auto gearbox on my 75 18t knows i am going down hill and changes down to assist speed control ???

If you apply the brake lightly, and the speed increases, without using your throttle, you must be going downhill or being pushed or towed.

Try it, apply the brake on a down slope with no speeder, and the gearbox will in many circumstances (depending on speed, revs and gear) gear down to increase engine braking.

As above.

Its intelligent it will hold lower gears when going up hill and also when cold to warm the engine up and gearbox oil.

Also as said above adjusts if you are towing etc

On my V6 this auto braking works quite well but is barely if at all noticeable on the diesel auto.

Edit: Sorry, the link refers to cruise control disengagement so doesn't answer Jim's point fully after all.

It doesn't work very well on my car either, so i just change down manually at the top of the hill.
