49 years ago The first Cannonball Baker, more popularly known as the Cannonball Run, began in New York City. It was an unofficial, if not outlawed, motor race from New York City to Los Angeles. Conceived by car-magazine writer and racer Brock Yates and fellow Car and Driver editor Steve Smith, All cars finished the race except for 1 MGB, the gearbox failed. **Copied from another site,
