Default Help please -electric seat failed - can't drive the car!

Hi all,

I moved my drivers seat forward yesterday, and it developed a mind of its own and also moved downwards. Now the only movement I have is forward and back, with both the height and rake inoperative. The memory function also seems to do strange things, certainly not what they were set to!

I've tried a battery off reset with no change. I can't drive the car now as the seat is way too low, and the rake too far back.....I'd have to hang onto the steering wheel in order to be able to see out of the windscreen!

Unlikely to be a fuse, as the forward and back motor works fine?

New ECU needed? Does anyone have one spare please?

I don't need the car at the moment, so I can wait a while for a fix, but advice is welcomed!

I had something rather similar recently after lifting the seats to remove the centre console.

It turned out one of the contacts in the main black plug on the seat to car connection was green, and after scrubbing the plug with an old toothbrush and some contact cleaner, a couple of connect / disconnect cycles, normal service resumed.

I then smeared a liberal dollop of petroleum jelly on the female contacts of the plug and reconnected.

So far it has been fine, it certainly gives you something to have a look at, you may wish to look at fuse 9, which would also give a symptom of the time clock not working, 51 which is one of the supplies to the seat ECU along with 53 in the passenger compartment fusebox too.

Best of luck

Brian
