Relays arrived, the R4, swapped them over and she fired up with no problems. Ran for about 15 minutes then cut out. Refused to fire. Swapped over with another one, got two from Matt, nothing happened. Pump is not running.
Tried again this morning, pump running, started up and she ran for about 3 minutes then died. Beginning to think it’s the pump itself. Will have to wait till the local garage re-opens and get the AA to tow her in.

But as you are the expert in reading RAVE Simon, I suggest you let him know what is causing the problem with his car, and not simply parroting the symptom, then claim the credit I will look forward to hear the answer from you, I'm sure Bob will too, because what it all boils down to experience here, something seriously lacking when you have only worked on one Rover 75 Now is the time to get your thinking cap on Brian P.S. As a clue, it has nothing to do with Herbie clips, O Rings, cooling fan brushes, the way the coolant is refilled, or sparking plugs P.P.S. Bob in the very likely event our intrepid reader SD1too fails to come up with the correct answer after poring over the manual, I will let you know the reason the main relay fails to energise |

You still haven't apologised for your false accusation. If you're so smart and superior Brian, as you clearly think you are, that shouldn't be a problem.
Now I expect that Bob will close this thread and it will be another one which you can add to your shameful list of sabotage. Simon

i think everyone is entitled to make comment on here and their comments will be evaluated by all, those with in depth knowledge will provide information that that will accurate information nine times out of ten and others of us will make our own observations which may or may not be accurate but well intentioned.
Its a forum for us all and in the end we choose the information we accept or not to use. After all, not worth worrying about getting our noses out of joint, we all have bigger things to worry about at the moment. |

Right been out this morning and tried her. Starts and ticks over but now we have a loud ticking noise that speeds up when you push the loud pedal. The noise goes once she is up to running temperature.
Turned her off. Waited 5 minutes and turned the key and she started. Done this a couple of times and each time she started to struggle to tick over. But would then settle down to a steady tick over. Would it be by any chance anything to do with the crankshaft sensor, (been changed twice in the last 2 years), becoming hot. Or the camshaft sensor, (changed once in the last 12 months). But she wouldn’t start from cold yesterday so that may rule that idea out. I forgot that once the pumped in primed you cannot hear it, so me thinking the pump is at fault would appear to be wrong. I have done a video and can post it up on Facebook if you want to listen.
