Default Sunroof Seal Rover 75 Conn 2.5

Hi,

I have the dreaded car full of water in my 75, which I'm guessing is coming from the sunroof drain tubes (as yet unmodified). When I looked at the sunroof, I can see that the rubber seal around the glass is very perished. So my question is, does anyone have a seal available or know of anywhere I might be able to get one? I've looked on Rimmers and contacted Xpart but the seal is a discontinued item. So I'm praying that someone on the forum can help me!

Thanks in advance

Even though the seal looks perished, I would be surprised if that is leaking, I am yet to see one leak from that seal, like you say, drain tubes are the culprit.

Hi trikey,
Thanks for responding. Although I'm glad to hear that you don't think the seal is leaking, it is covered in green patches and is cracked and crumbling quite badly in places, so I would really like to replace if possible.

Where else does the water come from to get to the drain tubes, if not through the sunroof seal?

The sunroof seal is not a water tight seal if it was there would be no need for the drain tubes. I don't think they are available any longer so best to just clean them up and. Mine leaked from where the tube pushes onto the sunroof so had to drop the roof lining a little to gain access. Check the other end as well located behind the glove box. There is a good write up on here somewhere just do a search.

They are there more to provide enough of an air seal to stop windnoise, than a water seal. Water is expected to get through, which is why there is a drain fitted at each corner.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Ganging up on me now eh

Seriously, thanks to both of you for that info. I never knew sunroofs were not water tight, so again i learn something new. Looks like you have saved me the expense of replacement. So now I can look forward to the lovely job of fixing the drain tubes and drying out the carpet.

Having read some other threads now, I may also do the front and rear window seals and of course recheck the plenum chamber.

Thanks again

Default Water in footwell

Hello
I have a 2004 75 Conn 2.0 Diesel and I was getting loads of water in the rear footwell one time I got over a gallon out of it , I checked the drainage tubes coming from the sunroof by passing a length of wire through them they were all ok apart from the front drivers side tube which seemed to be blocked part way along the pipe . What I did was block the pipe up at the top , where the tube connects to the sunroof , all I used was a bit of blue tac and the problem was silved . the other 3 tubes manage to take away the excess water and the interior stays dry . My roof seal is also green and cracked but this did work .
Hope this helps

They put a drain at each corner for a good reason, so the drainage would work no matter how the car was parked. Yours will be fine, until the day you park with the O/S/F corner lowest.

This is a diagram courtesy of Rimmer Bros with a list of part numbers for the sunroof assembly should you need it.

Thanks for your input Steven. I have seen somewhere on the forum that Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber care is good for cleaning green mildewy seals, so I might give that a go.
