Default The Capri Laser

Meet the new member of the family, a 1986 Ford Capri 1.6 Laser, received delivery earlier today. Its a step back in time for us as I had a red Capri LS back in 92, my wife also had a red MK2 Capri, so we've been reminiscing just a bit this afternoon. lol

We've been out already and grabbed a pic, cant wait till the warmer weather arrives, will be enjoying my youth again.

Don't worry, I still have the ZT and the TF.

Thanks fellas, I had this one delivered today, bought it blind, took a huge gamble considering the cost, but so far I am pleasantly surprised, its a 1.6 Laser.

She has had all rust removed and replaced with new metal including floor, replacement front wings, she is totally rust free, more new parts than you can shake a stick at.

The spray job on the wings could be better, correct colour but its new paint against old (shade difference), so I reckon I will get the wings blown over, also the bonnet.

A few little touches I can see that need doing, so it looks like I got some fun ahead of me this summer, but all the hard work has already been done. So it looks like the ZT and the TF have a new playmate, I wonder which one will go wrong first?

I forgot how easy these Capri's are to work on, just look at that old 1.6 Pinto engine, just look at all the room in there...

The ford pinto engine.. I fitted one to one of my trikes a few years ago, tuned it nicely, made a glorious sound on full chat.

Do I spy a nice tubular manifold Wes?

Looks nice, I had two Capris between 1985/91, a 1.6GL on a W reg, and a B reg 2.0ltr laser, both great cars, the one I'd wished I'd kept was the 2.0 laser, still a timeless shape.

Do you still have your trike Andy, you got any pics. Yes it has the 4 branch exhaust manifold, plus some sort of beefy exhaust, it sounds blooming great for a 1.6. lol

I agree Graham, they are the next best thing to a muscle car.

This one has been stripped and welded throughout, interior was stripped, floor welded and all painted. The inner wings front and rear plus arches, top struts, inner and outta sills, headlight bowls, boot floor, spring hangers all sorted, she feels really solid, feels better than my 1982 LS model did. She is pretty much original, the only mod is the exhaust and the black bonnet, the bonnet I may get painted red, not sure I'm keen on a black bonnet.

She's had a engine rebuild, lots of new parts, the brakes have been overhauled, new master, discs, drums, calipers, cylinders etc, you still don't stop as good as a new car though. She's had new shocks, new front arms, track rods ends etc, I'm finding new stuff everyday. She isn't perfect....yet, a few door dings along N/S, plus the paint could be better on front wings, lots of little things really.

She ain't bad for 34 years old though, will only keep appreciating in value, a nice little investment.

I keep saying to myself... I must not neglect the ZT or the TF, or the wife and kids.

Here's some pics...

Congratulations!
Growing up either my Dad or step Mum had a Capri, so I do have a soft spot for them. The last one was a silver 1984(?) 2.8i Special. That certainly knew how to move! Not as much space in the engine bay though

I think now I would prefer a TR6, but it would be an extremely difficult decision.

Funny you should mention a 3.0 S Rich, there is one local to me, but it needs a lot of work, so I bowed out.

Hey Robert, We all have our Hero Cars don't we, the Capri seems to be on the list for many, we should look at our dream cars as an investment, find a good classic and enjoy it.
