Default SGS TJ3 3 Tonne Trolley Jack updateb 22/01/18

used this today and am disappointed

1. will not raise my CDT front end high enough for me to get 9 inch ramps under the front wheels.

2. At times, lowers a car far to fast.... dangerously fast I'd go as far as saying.

Jack needs to be on at least 3 inches of wood to be able to lift car enough to get ramps under front wheels. This means having the front wheels on 3 inches of wood before you start to lift.

When lowering it seems to be turn handle anti clockwise, nothing happens, turn a bit more and whoosh down goes the car.... just too fast.

If you are trying to line something up, watch out when lowering.
Will contact SGS to see if they have any advice on lowering slowly.

Disappointing to here if you need to work on a car, it's frustrating to find that they lift high enough to use ramps or axle stands.

Can anyone recommend a jack that will lift a 75/ZT to ramp height, I am thinking of buying a new one.

Why not just drive car onto ramps make life a lot easier.

My ZT has front splitter and I can't drive straight on ramps, I want to get it up on four ramps so it is at a good working height

I put the front wheels onto 3 inches of wood and also put the jack onto 2 1/2 inches as I did not have 3 inches and then lifted from this position.

Now I know its not an issue but the first and second lift did not work out, the 3rd lift was the one that worked as I'd packed enough under the wheels and jack.
Well sort of, the ramps still needed a firm shove to get under the wheels hence I say 3 inches.

I've had an SGS low profile 2 tonne trolley Jack for a couple of years now and it's fine, no issues with lowering at all. I bought it specifically for my MGF but, have used in ZTT loads of times. With it being a low profile Jack, it won't lift at high but, it's ideal for low cars.

Was thinking of buying this for use on my ZTT, particularly to use on the rear centre jacking point.

Not so sure now. This is the one you have macafee, isn't it?

Even my large (small commercial garage) jack I don't think will lift that high. The problem is that as the weight comes off the suspension springs, the wheels come down a lot. Certainly high enough to get axle stand under though, but if I want ramps under the wheels, I drive the car up the ramps.

If I want the car up high, I have an hydraulic lift - like a fork lift. It slides under a wheel, or the sill, or under the tow bracket and raises it almost a metre in the air - but they are rather an expensive toy for most people. It was one of those, dig a pit, or pay many times more for a proper lift.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

The 75 is not that much better - I use a pair of planks hooked onto my ramps to make the slope a bit gentler. Just an old scaffold plank cut to length, with a metal bracket screwed to it, where it needs to locate in the ramp. A bit of carpet fixed on the leading edge, so the car begins on the carpet and stops the ramps being pushed away as you try to drive up them helps a lot.

You might be struggling to get it on four ramps at the same time

I have this one https://www.costco.co.uk/view/p/arca...j2000eu-900930

Lifts the car up very high, on full hight my car's nearly 45degree angle. the jack is nice and low as well, had to get this one after standard ones would no longer get under my car after fitting the side skirts as it's been lowered as well.
