Default Re: Fitting Coilovers: How-To

This is exactly what I was looking for! I have been dying to lower my Mk2 ZT but was waiting for an up-to-date thread on how-to and what coilovers to buy!
I am hoping to start in the next few weeks, but I cannot find cheap coilovers as I wont be installing top of the line €600 racing coilovers
Any idea where I can get a real cheap set?

I opted for the cheapest of the cheap, TA technix.
I got them on eBay for something like £130. They really are rubbish, they're so so stiff, but then they do get stiffer the lower you go so they might be alright at a sensible height.
You get what you pay for, I would personally look around the £300 mark for a half decent setup.
As always they may vary from mine, doubt it but they may, so bare that in mind.

P.S.

If anyone wants their top mounts welding as per the above picture, send them to me and I will gladly do it for the cost of posting them back to you.

Well I would be going for the cheapest of the cheap aswel as I my car rarely sees a bad road! Mostly motorway if I'm to be honest, so I dont Ind the ride being extra stiff and yes I'm planning to "slam" my ZT . . . I would send the top mounts to you for welding but postage might be a bit expensive as I live in southern Ireland, but I'll make them fit! Looking forward to seeing the "look of disgust" from old people thanks again for the guide!

Looks good!
Don't think ive ever seen a low 75/zt!

Edit:
Just had a thought.
I know that a few car owners make their own coilovers.

I googled it to help describe it better:
http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/121690.html

Might be another way instead of chopping and welding the top mount?
Could choose your own damper that way.

Using a threaded sleeve is an alternative, however it can result in the shock bursting, as they aren't designed to work at those sorts of heights or at those sorts of reaction speeds you get with stiffer springs.

I am interested I doing this but would go for the e46 pillowball mounts I know that would mean 3 extra holes but as you said I don't think it would affect the structure could always run a spreader plate to spread any load over the whole surface area? anyone know it it would affect structure strength at all?
