I don't recall having to replace springs much in the past years yet, last year had 3 go, could it be the cheap Chinese steel used? Had one go on a citroen van, the spring looked like new apart from about 20 mm of rust ( where it broke ) all the plastic coat was intact. Pot holes are a killer for springs as are worn or leaky shockers.
