Default non return valve in diesel fuel pipe

My Rover 1999 75 club CDT has a fuel leak and my mechanic tells me it is leaking from a 2" whitish valve (which, he says, looks like a non return valve) that is positioned in the fuel line prior to entering the fuel filter. He says he has tried a company called Harwoods but the part is no longer available. Can anyone please identify this part and suggest where I might find one?
Many thanks

Can you identify it here?

I didn't know there was one - I thought it did return the fuel. IIRC the thing that comes before the fuel filter is the under bonnet fuel pump. That is available.

Hi would it be possible for a photo? as I've looked through all the diagrams i have on the fuel system and does not show any none return valves!

There is a pressure control valve but this is near the high pressure pump, in one of the fuel lines between the u/b pump and fuel filter these is a in line round black cap shaped thing (i don't know what it is called) but this can rub through the fuel pipe next to it, just check and see if this the case?, Ste

You could ask them to point it out and take a picture?

There are plenty of diesel 'non return' valves listed on ebay - 6mm, 8mm, and 10mm. But I don't know what size you need or if they are easy to splice into your fuel line. You'll have to ask your mechanic.

I think what you are talking about is shown in this thread (picture in second to last post), last reply gives a part number:
