Cool Frank Williams………

……………. Formula 1 legend Sir Frank Williams, founder and former long-serving team principal of Williams Racing, has died at the age of 79.
Williams was a hugely influential figure in motorsport history, founding the iconic Williams team alongside Patrick Head in 1977 and spending five decades in total in F1.
His time in charge yielded nine constructor titles, seven driver titles - Alan Jones (1980), Keke Rosberg (1982), Nelson Piquet (1987), Nigel Mansell (1992), Alain Prost (1993), Damon Hill (1996) and Jacques Villeneuve (1997) - and 114 race wins.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Williams team said: “It is with great sadness that on behalf of the Williams family, the team can confirm the death of Sir Frank Williams CBE, Founder and Former Team Principal of Williams Racing, at the age of 79.
“After being admitted into hospital on Friday, Sir Frank, passed away peacefully this morning surrounded by his family.

A gentleman, and noble in his suffering.

a GREAT MAN AND VERY COURAGEOUS TOO.

Huge influence in formula 1 and maker of many world champion drivers.

I watched every one of the above named drivers become world champions.

I particularly liked Nigel Mansell.

RIP.

I'm very surprised how little response there has been to this news on the forum.

Can't be very many F1 enthusiast on here any more.

Some folk even used used to post very early results with a warning--( spoiler alert ) in case the post got read by accident and ruined the programme for them.---

Nowt as strange as folk.--

Death comes to us all but there is always an extra tinge of sadness when one so good passes.
Williams were at one point such a leading light in the sport I was sad when they had to step to one side.
