I need to fold the seat back down to tidy its scuffed rear panel. Its accessible from the boot, just easier from inside,.

Give over. It would be stripped for spares before I could turn the ignition off.

Seriously, I did consider that meet, but its way too far at 185 miles each way. I draw the line at 100.

MGJohn It has documented history up to 77k, from then on it was owned by its previous owner who had his own mechanic, friend, family perhaps. They did a grand total of 32k in seventeen years. Its had recent tyres all round and a nice new windscreen. All of the fluid levels were just where they should be.

The first characters of the private reg bear no resemblance to the owners name but are obviously special to him.

I draw the line at 100. The main jobs are some sill welding and a replacement front wing, hardly work that can be performed in a field.

Such a beaut! Well done on saving her, so nice to see these early cars falling into the hands of enthusiasts. Hope you can get all her little niggles sorted soon.

Thanks, nice of you to say so.

I have sourced a replacement front wing, and the car will be assessed next week regarding the welding and any other similar work needed. What's been done welding wise in the past is far from perfect, this was clear when I first viewed the vehicle and saw the gunge that had been applied to the sills. Fortunately, being a Cowley beast, they are black, so avoiding the need for paint matching.

Today I went to the traders place to collect the manual and some other books. I was hoping for rather more service and other history than there was, but my main interest was if there was a radio code. Initial inspection of the books was negative, but a closer inspection revealed a code, and, bingo, it worked. So does the CD changer in the glovebox, but I have absolutely no idea how that confounded Harman Kardon contraption in the boot is supposed to function, that's if it does.

The cars books are somewhat different from the later models. The handbook and service portfolios are separate documents, and are in portrait format. Unfortunately someone has stuck a bit of paper over part of the service book cover. Pity. Unfortunately there was no nice handbook wallet either., though also included was a Rover 25 owners manual in one of them horrible, cheap and tacky semi transparent plastic pouches.

The HK just gives an enhnced sound, turn up the bass and listen to see if you can hear the subwoofer, if not check the wiring underneath it as the spade connectors can become dislodged if something large has been in the boot.
