John will check it out later this week unless the problem re-occurs first.
I should have been more specific, the gearchange only became stiff when hot after a decent run, it would return to normal when cold and stay that way until the next long journey although it did gradually get worse - I.e. would start to get stiff after progressively shorter runs.

A case of time will tell. Anyway, John will check it out.

He is only ten miles away so the car will only get a low speed urban run. Next longish run is planned for 20th June to Penrith and back, though, in contrast to Mondays motorway trip, this one is an uphill/downdale low speed itinerary, so not really comparable.

I had a similar problem with a VW polo a few years back and garage said an exhaust heat shield was missing causing the linkage to get hot when in stop start traffic. It was fine at any other time, it was a holiday home car in Portugal and I sold it before sorting it. This is probably not applicable on the 75 but just a thought.

If gearchanges are becoming difficult when running but ok with the engine off, it’s usually a sign of a failing slave cylinder.

I’m sure John will be able to diagnose this for you.

T shirt and shorts. Snow's gone, so parked at Lydgetts Junction had a walk over Hownsgill Viaduct before adjourning to Tesco.

Here's the proof, first image looking south from the viaduct, second looking north. I see no snow.
