When you say 'sealed up' you didn't actually add any sealant to the ecu case did you?

No, as I figured it would give problems if and when it has to come apart. I just applied a thin strip of duct tape around the joint to stop any incidental ingress.
The white immobiliser block when taken apart showed rusty areas on the relay and contact surfaces so these got a good clean up with a fibre pencil and a shot of Gt85 before rebuilding. The plug contact area on this item showed some calcium deposits and green staining due to the water getting into the plug area. Why did they make the diesel ecu’s unsealed anyway, seems to be asking for trouble.

They were designed to live inside the car on a BMW, as we know.. in the Rover they live in the plenum (or fish bowl as we sometimes refer to it)

They have an inbuilt ambient air pressure sensor, so can't be fully sealed. The white box is the glow plug relay - they had the sense to fit the immobiliser in the cabin, although they have been known to get wet. |

Ahh so that’s what the white box is! Thanks for clearing that one up.
I have only taped the bottom and sides of the ECU an their is various gaps at the top for the sensor to do it’s job. At least ‘Splash proof is better than ‘No proof’!!! Must say car now runs very smooth after a good dry out of the circuit board, maybe it had dampness for a while causing a lump or two!!

Drove to Durham station, then by train by train to Uttoxeter to collect a pair of pre Project Drive boot side liners and lamp covers.
Now fitted. Another box ticked. Last edited by Annfield-East; 24th May 2021 at 20:03.. Reason: Correction. |

Not today, but last Saturday which turned out to be my last drive in Andy, my ZT190. We made it about 500m from home where a gangster in a 5-series running from the Police took off Andy's front end. He was travelling about 100kph on the wrong side of the road when he blew a stop sign. I was lucky to escape injury (6 feet from death actually) but was in shock for a couple of days.
[IMG][/IMG] Andy as I will remember him. [IMG][/IMG]

What an awful thing to happen to your lovely car. I really feel your pain. I'm so glad you were uninjured, milliseconds in it being much, much worse. |
