Dan's already ruled that out Matt.

The pump isn't getting a 12v supply from the car so that's what we're trying to trace.

Thanks for keeping me on my toes.

Thanks for that.--My mistake. I thought he was talking about the better engine; the diesel.------The one that gets around 50 mpg all the time.----( the reading on mine at the moment says 51.3 mpg. )

Hi Simon. Sorry for the slow reply. Been stacked out at work.

Yes the fuse reads 0 ohms and I'm not getting 12v to the fuse holder. I also tried to check for voltage into the relay holder and I'm not getting 12v there either, when cranking.

Cheers, Dan.

That's very unusual. Please check that you're using an effective earth for your meter.

OK, in the underbonnet fusebox locate "link 3". This is rated at 50 amps so is effectively not much of a fuse at all! Don't attempt to remove it (it's constantly live with battery voltage), just place your voltmeter on it.

Do you see +12v on both sides?

Simon

Hi Simon. I've just had a look and thing my earth is OK as I'm getting 12v from some of the fuses under the dash. I checked link 3 and yes I'm getting 12v either side of that, and the other links in the fuse box under the bonnet. Cheers, Dan.

In the engine bay fuse box there are 5 large relays, 3 on the left and 2 on the right, swap the lower right hand one and see if it starts.

Hi David. Just swapped it with the fan relay and no difference (they seemed the same unit). Should I order a known good one to test? Dan.

No, swap it with another yellow one just to confirm.
Also remove that fuse box and check the underside wiring etc, I know of a couple of cases where the fusebox was damaged internally.

Cool, that's what I tried . Same behaviour unfortunately. Also I took the fuse box out a couple of days a go and sprayed the connections with contact cleaner and re-seated. No change. So if it may be damaged internally is a used on from eBay a good bet?
