Thanks for your post Mr 75driver.------That small hole seems to have done what I thought ( in theory. ) it might do.

Get the heat to where it's needed to assist in the correct opening temperature/time of the stat.---

Evening All,
I recently did a 76 mile round trip, (first longest journey - mainly motorway) and had the temp gauge on 19 - 7 on the OBD, and noticed the temperature never went over 78 degrees..... Do you guys think there is a problem with the Thermostat.... do I run risk of overheating.?

Is there any risk to continuing to drive my car, (ie; overheating?) - The car runs well generally, returning good mpg.

I have also noticed the fan (3 speed) doesn't work on the demist test (will be replacing with a Revotec one from Jules in a few weeks - when got funds together!)

Would welcome some advice regarding thermostat etc and recommendations?

Cheers

Maurice

Yes, it does Jon, but I suspect it may be at the expense of the INITIAL warm up time.

Maurice, I don’t think you will have problems with overheating. In fact, you need a properly opening / closing thermostat to get up to proper operating temperature.
I presume it’s a diesel? In which case they should be 88deg.
Your options would be:
- replace them original thermostat
- install a 2nd thermostat (squeezed down the top hose)
- install a 2nd thermostat, in a bespoke housing, in the top hose.

To get the fan working on the demist test, you may just need to replace a silver resistor (if it has one) with a gold one, but Jules will keep you advised if your going down to see him.

Thanks 75 Driver,

Will look to fit a 2nd thermostat in the Top hose (You tube is a wonderful thing! - sometimes!)

Yeah, my fan is 3 speed so no resistor, so looking to do the upgrade to a revotec fan.

Thanks

Maurice

These are cool running engines, so if you drive sedately in cold weather 78 degrees may be all you will get even if you fit another stat.

As for engine fans I fitted a single speed fan from a Rover 25 one weekend when my 3 speed fan packed up as a temporary measure and then forgot all about it, and that was many years ago.
