Hi All,
I had the same issue as EURO44, the same gorilla tightened the nut under my handbrake too.... (30mm of thread showing), also ended up drill the nut off. My next issue fitting the Stainless Steel Compensator from Steve (Arctic)... I don't seem to be able to re-fit the black clip for retaining the single brake cable... There doesn't appear to be enough space... anybody have a method to fitting the clip. Any help would be appreciated. Best regards Maurice |

Hi Maurice, the clip your having trouble with slips in easy if you squeech it closed . fit the single cable in its slot and make sure it is tight up against the compensator nearest the gear lever, the clip then goes in behind the cable in its own square opening, release and its done.

I have a cable and clip always on my desk to check that the cable fits into the compensator before i post out, you may have one that got past me? 1 As you know push slide the cable barrel end into the compensator as below. 2 It should go all the way in. 3 Once in pull the compensator backwards so barrel move forwards to the front stop. 4 Over head view. 5 Black clip needs to be squeezed together 6 7 Then inserted into & behind the cable barrel aperture. 8 As above if it is one that as got past me? then couple of things to check, look and see the the compensator as been pushed in a little by the vice so the barrel will not push fully, marked by the yellow dots, if so open out a little with screwdriver. 9 if the above is straight then check the gap the cable wire is in marked by the orange dots, again open it up if tight. 10 Hopefully this helps and if it is one that got past me i am truely sorry Arctic.

Hi Steve,
Many thanks for you explanation, Will give it a go tomorrow, ie; opening up gap with screwdriver as when barrel goes in doesn't seem to go forward (ie; towards the handbrake) giving that gap behind for black clip. P.S - my old compensator will be posted out to you on Tuesday Morning. Thanks again Maurice |

Hi All,
Went back to it this morning determined to sort it, had a look at the modified SSC and the one I had removed and there was a slight difference in the width (see photo) as explained in (Steve's) Arctic's suggestion. I was able to widen the gap ever so slightly this allowed the barrel to move all the way to the front of the compensator giving me the gap to fit the black clip.... So put everything back together, (carpets, console screws etc) and adjusted the nut to 25mm as recommended by Arctic, 3 clicks later on the handbrake and it hold rock solid!! (without need to adjust at wheels) - so all come good in the end.... To celebrate I then fitted the EGR Bypass!! my next job oil, filters, PCV change Maurice |

You don't need to drill nuts off.---Buy a cheap nut splitter.
Turns them into a letter U shape in seconds. Just lift the thing off.--- Last edited by COLVERT; 31st August 2020 at 11:29.. |
