Question Advice budgeting for a v6 ZT?

Hi!

I'm looking to change cars - I currently drive a 1.0 3dr Fiesta (was first car so as boring and basic as can be!) and want a saloon with some poke. I'm 22 and have had the Fiesta since I was 17, and looking at insurance on a V6 190 ZT it's not totally insane - however I'm a little unsure about selling the Fiesta - will it count as taxable income as I paid very little towards it and so will technically profit from selling it? I've checked out these income calculator sites (https://www.after-tax.co.uk/) but can't get my head around it so was hoping someone here could advise.

Now the ZT - around how much are you paying for maintenance, MOTs, tax, basically anything that isn't insurance? Would be greatly appreciated

Cheers!

Any vehicle you have owned for > six month and has been registered in your own name can be sold without being liable for tax on the sale

In regards to your choice of car, beware there are an awfully large amount of money pit cars out there, and the V6 models have a thirst that will make your eyes water

Take your time in choosing the right car, and you will have a nice time owning it, choose poorly maintained examples at your peril, what seems cheap, will be cheap for a good reason

Have fun and welcome aboard

As already said by Brian above really plus:

Probably the most items talked about & potentially both fairly expensive jobs on any of the KV6's......Timing Belts & Clutch.

Oh & try not to think about how many miles to the gallon it does!!

Everything is bigger so costs more (tyres, battery, brakes and so on). As a very basic guide, think what your Fiesta costs and double it. Check the road tax before buying, the youngest V6 190's are now £535 a year (if first registered after March 05 I believe).

Some parts are no longer readily available such as exhausts but stainless steel is an option, but will cost up to £600. As mentioned, buy carefully after reading the very useful buyers guide on here. Get one where all the expensive things have been done, pay top dollar for a good one and it will prove cheaper in the short run, let alone the long run

If you find a good one that requires little or no work it will still be far cheaper than some boring BMW or Audi. Plus you have this amazing club to come to for help and support plus the Facebook page. ENJOY..

Probably better than 50% of the Fiesta though. Mine does around 28mpg and our Citroen Cactus 1.2 petrol doesn't even do 50 yet it's mostly dual carriageway driving for the wife's commute.

For a low mileage (2,000 pa) driver like me it's only a small total difference on the cost of ownership but if you are looking to do 12,000 a year then.

12,000 miles / 50mpg x £1.25 per litre x 4.54 (to make a gallon) = £1,362

so a 190 would be about £2,500 pa and mine (for 2,000 miles) about £420. Worth every penny.

How about a 1.8T?

Cheaper on necessary stuff like Cambelt/water pump change.... mine on LPG and love paying £28 circa to fill the tank...

That was my point really

I never really understand why some buy these cars (V6's & V8's especially) & then have concerns about economy!
I couldn't tell you what any of mine do to the gallon.

The plain fact is, they're a big heavy car & they're absolutely wonderful

The expensive ones to tax are registered from 1st March 2006. Doubt you will find many of them.
The golden rule is buy the very best one you can. As said before, a £500 bargain could cost you another £1000+ just for belts and clutch.
I run 2 V6 cars and yes they can gulp fuel if driven hard. However on a run my 2.5 V6 180 turned 36.1mpg. Around town it drops to about 22mpg of mixed driving.
You will get addicted to the sound and performance on tap. Look at the buyers guide on this site. All you need to know. Good luck.
