Help,help,Help
Hi,
I am having overheating problems after having no heating in the car. I replaced water pump, thermostat, and drive belt, also had the coolant system drained and re-filled, replaced the filler cap (140). The start of the story began with me having no heating after having my back box replaced. I had the head gasket tested and the pressure's are fine, I then had had the water pump then thermostat replaced which give me my heating back(not as hot as before but at least I got it back). For small journeys it goes' up to the middle on the instrument and stays there, if I drive for about 25/30 minutes it then goes' up to the top and the engine management system says 'engine overheating'? Has anybody got any idea's as I am not that good on mechanics(in fact rubbish) any help would be brilliant. Tom |

If the temp guage is shooting up to the top dont drive it until you have sussed the issue. Poss fan issue, ie not working.

One problem is that the temp gauge isn't that helpful - it sits in the middle across a wide range of temperatures.
You can get the actual temp displayed in the panel using this method - http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...d.php?t=184514 This is going to help you with monitoring / diagnosis. There is a common failure on the engine cooling fans. I believe they are 2 speed for the 1.8. There's a resistor attached to the fan which is switched into the circuit when the fan needs to run at slow speed. These often fail. A test is to start the engine from cold, select the demist option from auto (assuming you have the auto climate controls), then peer through the grill and see if the fan is turning - it should be. |
