On the way to the in-laws in Little Clacton. We were looking for antiquey-type shops en-route. There's one in Coggeshall, just out of shot. He said there were forty two in the town before the property boom.

Yes, around Essex & Suffolk, AFAIK.

It's pretty enough there but many shops seem to have been converted to homes, which does take the heart out of a place, IMO.

The other thing that killed Coggeshall was the bypass so most people on the A120 do not even know the town exists.

I've always known of it as l stayed with a school friend for a week when his family moved there in the sixties. I think l would have been around 9 or 10 years old.
