Wow - Megs220 turned up.

The Meguairs G220 plus pads turned up Monday, so I spent the whole day on the car - 10 hrs

Started with a thorough wash, dry then the whole car was clayed. Car was then washed and dried again. I then spent an hour or so reading G220 articles - thanks to DaveKG for his excellent machine polishing articles on the cleanyourcar forums http://tinyurl.com/5mdlmj.

Monday was an overcast day, so very good for the polishing, but not so good for checking out swirls (I don't have a torch to show them up). I had the car machine polished 3 months ago, so the swirls that had returned were very fine. I decided to use Menzerna Final Finish PO85RD on an orange Menzerna pad. This combination should give me minimal cut and enhance gloss.

I went over each panel starting on speed 3 to spread the polish, then speed 5 for the polishing itself (6 passes), then finishing on speed 3. The limited sun available showed this polish/pad combination was all that was required to remove the very fine swirls.

The finish certainly looked glossy and deep, but with the day so dull, I wasn't seeing the full impact of the finish achieved - until I took the car out the garage Tuesday morning in full sun that is

I also used a Sonus SFX-2 Spot Pad with Zaino Z-14 Plastic Magic Cleaner & Polish on the lights - they came up very nice

I have gone from misery after applying the DrColorChip product wrong and ruining my bonnet, to happiness after using the Meguairs G220

If you are thinking of buying a G220, I would thoroughly recommend you do so - this is my first attempt and it looks great. I found it straight forward to use - I did have a go at the Midlands meet demo thanks to Trebor for that, so do the same if you are worried at all.

Ray that looks absolutely smashing I was thinking about getting a Megs G220 but like you am still a bit wary on how to use it well done with your car again its a credit to you

Excellent job there Ray. I've just purchased a Silverline rotary polisher - price was a governing factor

- and I'm looking forward hopefully to a better standard of finish. The 220 has certainly worked for you! Very nice.

I've just had a look at your Dr Colourchip Disaster thread Ray - that looked really bad! Did the 220 sort it out?

Fantastic job Ray, i was going to say that it looks in showroom condition but changed my mind it looks better than showroom, looks like its made from glass !

Hard work but when you stand back and admire it well worth the effort !

No - a wipe over with Acetone did the trick

Thanks - I couldn't believe the finish when I pulled it out the garage. The weather was so dull the day before, I hadn't realised just how good a finish the G220 had given it.

I forgot to say what products I put on the car after machine polishing it - 3 coats of Zaino Z2 polish, with a mist and wipe of Z6 between coats. Final layer was Z8.

I think the G220 would now go to the top of my list of detailing products to own. Without a machine polish, you will not be getting the best from your paint, regardless what LSP you put on.

i must get some of this Zaino to try, where is the best place to get it from, or is it the usual serach on e bay ?

Absolutely stunning paintwork there. Fantastic effort you have put into that and it certainly shows. As Rob says, it's better than a showroom finish.
