Default Air recirculation issue

Does anyone know how to stop the air recirculation coming on whenever I start the car up?

It doesn't seem to matter what temp. I have it set at, the air recirc. always comes on instead of using air from outside of car.

I'm sure I've read of a way to turn this on or off.

Anyone know?

Maybe the sensor for the outside temperature isn't working properly.

Temp sensor seems to be working ok.

I just thought I'd read a way whereby you can select the air recirculation to come on all the time or not. I'm sure its by holding the recirc button down for a certain amount of time.

This is normal behaviour from my 2 75's when the car first comes on, it is to achieve the desiered temp ASAP. Once this has been reached it switches back to external. If i dont want it to do this i just press the button on the climate control unit, however this has to be done every time.

Press and hold what Paul; the 'Econ' button or the 'Recirculation' button?

The problem is that it doesn't! When the car has been standing in hot conditions, the temperature inside is much higher than the ambient temperature outside, so the last thing you want is recirculated air!

Not initially however after a couple of seconds it will be and this is sped up because the air is recycled time and time again within the space of a minute or so. Every cycle means the air gets colder thus less energy and the process of cooling down is done quicker than if external air was used.

My 03 1.8T has always done this and I've always assumed that it's normal when the car has been parked in warm weather. It thinks that the aircon will cool the car down quicker this way. Except that it doesn't think, because I usually run with the aircon off except in hot weather. I just turn the recircling button off and carry on, but that confuses it even more.
I suspect that the cabin temp sensor is slow to react having been really heated up because it takes ages to revert to normal.
