Default Sat Nav Problem

I have a problem with my Highline sat nav.

The disc keeps ejecting so im unable to use it, I have replaced the disc with another but the problem persists I am tinkering with it at the moment and have checked the unit in the boot for water damage etc but it appears ok. If I time it right I can get the disc to stay in the unit just before the interior car lights turn off automatically when shutting the car other wise it just carries on ejecting and intaking the disc even when the car is off and locked obviously causing the battery to go flat. Anyone got any ideas on this one ?????

Not heard of one, doing that before, but be careful.

If you disconnect it whilst the power light is on, you'll stuff it.

If you want to drive over to sunny Hertford, I've got a spare you can try,

I know the problem.
I have an old MK2 1999 model. It spits discs all the time. The only disc it liked was the original 1999 one that came with the car but its maps are now out of date in many areas so I have to update every couple of years with new Navteq discs.
At first I just put up with it and fed it back in when I opened the boot or wanted to use the Nav. Now I only load the disc when I need the Nav and leave the disc out. Less scratches and updates. Never found a solution.
The Nav works OK at present but I am looking for an upgrade .

Had this and only cure was to change the tray together with Laser assembly.
Not cheap or worthwhile for MK3 units but worthwhile on MK4's.
About £125 plus fitting.
Try using a Cleaning Disc, and use Clean Original Map discs if possible to load.

There is a Unit on tray with sensor etc and it goes US cannot be replaced though.

I confess that I have had this problem for a while and had exactly the same symtoms you describe initially but now it spits the disc out all the time. I got so fed up I started using a portable sat nav but now thats packed up as well (I may be cursed) so I thought I'd try and get the original going. Maybe I'll go and buy anoyher portable !!!!

Thanks ever so much for the reply I may just take you up on that offer but it may be cheaper for me to just go and buy another portable plug and go sat nav although the original would be nice again

MK3 is a CD version MK4 is a DVD version, and has DVD clearly printed on the Front.
There is also the earlier MK2's but if replacing only go for MK3 or MK4.

You could see if a member on here has a unit with the red light of death.
If the same type as yours the parts you need can be swapped over easily.
Unless its a Mk3 it not worth doing though

See below for difference between mk2 and mk3
